We are supporting the Children at the Rio Grande Children’s Home and want to have an event during the Summer before the Winter Texans return to the Valley! The event on September 1rth will include a cook out of hotdogs and S’MORES (yummy!)
Here is a tentative schedule: Bentsen Palm State Park on Saturday 9/14/13 :
• 2:30 to 4:00 pm bike riding and activity center
• 4:00 to 5:30 pm BBQ and s’mores at BP RV resort
• 5:30 to 6:30 pm either swimming or biking (either in BPSP or in BP RV resort)
August Highlights
7th Annual Perseid Party at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park
On Saturday, August 10th from 8:00 pm to Midnight, Chicktime Co-leaders Joanne & Andy Mozynski organized a fun-filled night for the children from the Rio Grande Valley Children’s Home at the 7th Annual Perseid Party at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. This annual event featured live animals, nature-themed family activities, stargazing and live entertainment. The children were especially excited because they were able to stay up late and were given $10.00 each to buy treasures and/or snacks.
8 Children ( 6 girls and 2 boys) and 1 infant:
☺ watched the Folkloric dancers and the puppet show at the stage
☺ enjoyed various activities where the girls received T-shirts from the Mission Chamber of Commerce, and the boys won Frisbees at the Night Sky Booth
☺ visited the Texas Master Naturalists booth where they petted Kym, the Ball Python and felt the soft fur of a bobcat
☺ were amazed at the UTPA mobile planetarium and the star constellations inside
☺ looked through powerful telescopes to see various stars and constellations, including the Milky Way and the Rings of Saturn
☺ rode the park tram, saw Mexican Freetail bats, and went on a guided night hike to see Bark Scorpions glow in the dark using ultra violet lights.
We are very grateful to Joanne Mozynski for coordinating with Melissa Chadwick at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park for inviting the children to attend the festivities at the 7th Annual Perseid Party
