New Leadership
We are thrilled to announce that Letty Rodela will be joining our Chicktime San Antonio leadership team! Letty has been a faithful volunteer for several years and has frequently hosted our monthly activities. We are so happy that she has accepted our invitation and are blessed that she is willing to share her talents with us. Look for Letty’s bio in next month’s newsletter.
January Activity
We had a fabulous time at Casa de Milagros on January 17th making oh-so-cute fleece blankets with the teen residents. In the past, we have made baby blankets. But, this time they got to make something they could keep for themselves. The wonderful ladies from Shrine of St. Padre Pio so graciously donated the supplies and spent their Saturday morning showing the girls how to make the blankets. It may have been quiet in the beginning, but once the girls saw that there was no agenda—only love and friendship, they really started to feel comfortable. Before long, everyone was chattering as if they were long-lost friends.
Some of us babysat a couple of adorable and very active toddlers and we got to rock some babies, too. One of the toddlers kept pointing at us, then twirled her finger and pointed at her head. Her mom said she was telling us we were “loco”. We found that to be hysterically funny. Why, yes! We are loco at times. In our stressful and crazy lives, it is therapeutic to just be silly with a bunch of toddlers every now and then!
The girls at Casa de Milagros miss their moms. They miss their grandmas. They miss their sisters. While we know we can’t fill that void in their lives, we hope that we remind them that they are loved—even if we only have a couple of hours to spend with them once a month. In spite of all they have been through, these teens praise God for the blessings they have received and have faith that there is a better life ahead.
Blessings,
Donnette, Annette & Letty
“Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
