October Update:

Today was one of those days that fills your heart right up. It was a joy leading our volunteer activity at the shelter — a Halloween-themed pumpkin painting with candy, laughter, and endless creativity.

By the end, all 40 pumpkins were gone and the smiles were bigger than ever

It’s such a simple reminder that joy doesn’t always need to be complicated — sometimes all it takes is paint, sugar, and a room full of happy kids.

September Update:

This past weekend at House of Ruth, we hosted a “Sip & Paint” with the moms and kids — complete with Capri Suns, snacks, and lots of creativity! 🎨🧃

What I love most about these moments is how something as simple as paint, laughter, and community can create such joy and connection. It’s a reminder that healing and resilience don’t always happen in big ways — sometimes it’s in the small, colorful strokes we share together. 💜

August Update:

Our Tie Dye Workshop was Totally Groovy!

We didn’t snag any pics during the activity — it was that wild and fun with the BIG group who came out! The kids had a blast making their own tie-dye bags and enjoying some delicious doughnuts.

Big shoutout to Renee for volunteering with us for the first time today — you rocked it!

July Update:

The day after the Fourth, we kept the spirit of joy and creativity alive at House of Ruth—crafting pinwheels with the kids and some of their amazing moms. Grateful for our wonderful volunteers, both new and returning, who helped make the day so special.

June Update:

Our June workhsop was a resounding success! We had 3 new volunteers and a large turnout of kids and moms. The children thoroughly enjoyed the doughnuts and coloring, and the mothers were particularly fond of the henna provided by Myiesha!

May Update:

Our Mother’s Day workshop was so special. We had over 25 mothers and kids come hang out with us. 

We got hugs and many told us they would see us next month. We can’t wait.

Easter Party success!

The kids (and moms!) had so much fun on the Easter egg hunt! They filled their baskets to the brim

2 of the kids came up to us after hugged us and thanked us for coming. It was so sweet

It’s so special to serve our community!!

Yesterday, we spent the day spreading love and joy with the amazing women and children at the House of Ruth! It started off slow, but just as we were packing up, we got a wonderful influx of participants—and we’re so glad we did!

The kids had a blast making Valentine’s cards for their moms, filling the room with creativity and smiles. It was a beautiful reminder that small moments of kindness can have a big impact.

And the best part? We welcomed two new volunteers into our community!

January Update:

This week’s event had a smaller turnout—perhaps the date change caught some off guard—but it was still a heartwarming success! We were blessed with 2 new amazing volunteers who helped make the day extra special.

The kids and moms who came had such a great time creating their boards, and the smiles and laughter made it all worth it. Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed to such a meaningful experience!

Our Halloween party was Spooktacular! We had 14 House of Ruth there! The kids and moms had a great time!

They asked if we were coming back! Of course we are and so grateful they feel loved by our workshops!

It was a quiet day at the shelter this week, but we were still able to put a smile on some children’s faces by dropping off some coloring books, crayons, and word puzzles! And also, don’t forget about the candy

Chicktime Columbia had a wonderful Mother’s Day workshop in May.

We had over 20 moms and kids attend. Everyone truly had fun…and many of the mothers shared heartfelt gratitude not only for todays workshop but for everything that Chicktime does. 

We can’t wait for next month!

Our March workshop was a success! We had about 8 women & kiddos. We had laughs, played games and listened to music from start to finish

We made vision boards and our workshop was a success!! It was so much fun and also very uplifting to be able to hear some of the women’s stories and offer encouragement

We had about 10-12 women attend and about 4 kiddos! This was the largest workshop attendance yet! (even considering pre-Covid attendance!) At the end of the workshop, Chicktime Columbia Chapter Co- leaders , Rebecca & Terrika , chatted & shared that they both prayed for a good turn out & God definitely answered their prayers!

We did not meet in December as we spent the month working with our charity partner, filling out forms and trying to connect with volunteers to get ready for our 1st in person workshop since Covid! Stay tuned for details.
