Summer Love

June Update:

June’s activity allowed the children to use their imaginations, creativity and even their little green thumbs.
Ms. G (Sandra) brought terracotta pots, lots of paint and plants, also teaching the children how to propagate plants indoors & outdoors.
All of the children filled with lots of paint, soil, googlie eyes and the children’s imaginations. The kiddos were so excited to get their hands on the terracotta pots and we allowed them to unleash their artistic potential which resulted in so many different pots decorated with colorful designs, patterns, and even fingerprint art. While using their imagination Ms. G (Sandra), helped them learn about the importance of sunlight, water, and proper care for healthy plant growth. They even learned Ms. G’s secret plant food (banana peel water) that helps the plants and flowers grow and bloom!!
Ms. Matti and Ms. G worked with the kiddos to help them with the potting process after they’d each decorated their terracotta pots with their unique and fun designs and more importantly, you sense their pride and accomplishment with each stage of the process.
Ms. G not only taught the children how to propogate new plants from existing plants, but also how to pot a new plant with anything you have around the house.
The children loved hearing it’s good for them to communicate with their plants (tee hee! ) and they even shared some uplifting words they would share with their plants to help them grow.
In times of too much many electronics capturing our children’s attention, it was so rewarding and exciting to see the children engaged and understanding how to develop a love for nature and appreciate the environment.
Also had the opportunity to hear some pretty cool stores of some of the children’s experience with Mother Earth through their gardening with their grandparents and parents. It was exciting to hear how one of the children grew eggplant with his father, another watermelons with his grandparents…it was heartwarming to hear them to share some wonderful memories with family!
It was incredible to watch a couple of the children as they demonstrated their “Color Mixology” skills for the rest of us…some pretty incredible colors we didn’t know could be made…PRETTY IMPRESSIVE!
A big shoutout to our volunteer Matti’lyn and to our Bridge partners Darius and Amanda who also participated in the fun!! The kids loved sharing that experience with the adults and it was fun watching them interact. None of this would be possible without our incredible partners at The Bridge (Roy Maas Youth Alternatives) or our fabulous volunteers!
