Happy Fall Y’all!

We started fall off in high fashion…..Lily and Hallie taught us how to make tye dye tshirts!  It was such a blast.  As one of the young girls took the rubber  bands off to reveal her tye dye masterpiece, her hands were shaking with excitement!  The kids and adults were thrilled with how their projects turned out!  Groovy job Lily and Hallie!

Cant believe it is almost back to school time!

We had the best intentions for Chicktime on Saturday…but as you all know, things do not always go as planned!  What is amazing to us is when you have a plan, it doesnt work out but the result is even better than what you had planned!  We  visited, ate breakfast and met knew friends.  We checked in on the garden we planted this summer , got to see some of the veggies they have picked and were told stories of how they have used the vegetables in their cooking!

It was so relaxing…..  Perfect girl time.  So we are moving our orginal plan for Scrapbooking to this Saturday August 2.  If you are avaiable please join us!

If you would like to lead a month, please let us know!  It truly makes a differenec in the life of the ladies at the Crisis Center (and the ladies that lead)

We have back up plans in case no one comes forward….but we would love new ideas and new faces!

Domestice abuse…..It is a horrible subject that no one wants to talk about but on Saturday…..there it was walking down Loop 256 in Palestine…..

The 4th Anuual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes was a huge success!  Anderson County raised nearly 9k alone!

There were about 30 men brave enough to WALK THE WALK!  It is truly a sight to see these men standing up against abuse….and we all know that is where the change will have to come from.  Men standing up, in public, in front of their friends, coworkers, church members, family,  saying we will NOT tolerate abuse against women and children.

More fun to Come!!  With Summer coming up please be patient as we work on our Calendar…we have fun things ahead but are trying to firm up dates!  We will send reminders and invites!

May…TBA

June…Painting with Lori Bearden!

July…Scrapbooking with Kristi Jo Edson

If you or anyone you know would like to lead a month…please let us know!  These women recovering from abuse at the Anderson County Crisis Center are so warm and welcoming and enjoy the fellowship!

Let us just say it again…..Chicktime Palestine and the Crisis Center of Anderson County Rock!  We are so thankful to be a part of their great organization!  We spent the last Saturday with the ladies there it was the most amazing time ever ( I know we say that a lot…but it is just getting better and better)

Lily and Tracy led this months activity….Lets plant a garden and some pretty flowers!  For me I can honestly say that having my hands in the soil, planting something to nuture and grow is one of the most theraputic things ever!   The feeling was definitly mutual….the women laughed, joked, talked about happy things, serious things and in some way planted a new seed for the future.  It is such a honor and blessing not to just be ‘allowed’ to go see these beautiful women but to be warmly welcomed….there are simply no words.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,     The song of the birds for mirth, One is nearer God’s Heart in a garden     Than anywhere else on earth.

Coming up in May….Just in time for Mothers Day….Michelle Turner will be hosting a Pamper me Party!  More details to follow….watch our calendar!

So…we started  2014  off  with a bang!  We spent the morning playing Nertz with Amy and Leigh Stauffer and Codi Bennett leading the way.  This is a family game that they have played for years.  And it may sound funny…when you think about the mission of Chicktime, is to take something you feel passionately about and share it….you may think “Really, play cards?”  But when you sit around a table with a group of fun, smart, beautiful women, throw in a crazy fun card game…..and voila….there it is, a group  of  women who are  are all equals….bonding, talking and sharing thoughts, ideas, jokes….it is very powerful and I think that is the passion that Amy, Leigh  and Codi wanted to share (plus the game is pretty darn fun!)

024Our next event will be February 22.  Fitness expert Tamara Barnett will be teaching us some simple exercises we can to make us stronger and healthier!  Tamara is inspirational and truly cares about building women up!

March is open if anyone has something they would love to share!!  Come on!  Dont be scared!

April 26th the 4th Annual Walk a Mile in her Shoes!

Wow!  2014!  Sounds Crazy!

2013 wrapped up wonderfully for Chicktime Palestine!  Right on the heels of our Thanksgiving feast we were honored to help with the annual Crisis Center Christmas party.  It was amazing!  We were asked to provide crafts for 50+ kids.  As the children painted ornaments and decorated stockings we were blessed.  The joy in the room, the strength you could feel from these families who had and are going through so much is such a spectacular feeling.  The human spirit is a beautiful thing!  We are already looking forward to next years party!

We are going to keep right on rolling in January too!  Leigh and Amy Stauffer are leading January 11th with a day full of fun and games.  They will teach us to play their families favorite card game along with some other games and yummy snacks!  So join us from 11am – ?  It is going to be a blast!

November…Help us celebrate Thanksgiving with the women at the Crisis Center.  We will meet Wednesday the 27th at 930am  to help prepare a  meal for the clients in the safe house so on Thanksgiving day they can gather over a feast and celebrate all the positive things in their lives. If you are interested in helping with this please let us know.   We will need cooks, helpers, ideas,  smiles and kind hearts.

December 11  4:30-6:30 We will be helping with the Crisis Center Christmas Party!  We will be in charge of  crafts for the kids.  Last year we painted ornaments, played musical chairs and watched them open presents from Santa.  It will truly warm your heart.  So please join us as we shower these kids with love, warmth and a few gifts! We need people for the party or if you would like to play Santa for a special kiddo, let us know!!  So put on our jingle bells and elf hats and join us!  So call or email and let us know what you would like to do.

If you have an idea for something fun to do in 2014….Please let us know!

REFUGE OF LIGHT NEWS

Refuge of Light has signed with Buckner International!

Refuge of Light is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a long term safe home that provides physical, mental, and spiritual healing in an effort to overcome the brutalization of modern day slavery, called ‘sex trafficking’ in the lives of victimized girls under the age of 18 years within the United States. Our goal is to open the Refuge of Light safe home in Spring 2015.Human trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing criminal activity in the world.

Human trafficking or slavery generates $32 billion annually, worldwide (The International Labor Office). Statistics show that within the United States there is anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 individuals sexually trafficked, yearly (U.S. Department of Justice). Tragically, there are only a handful of shelters with less than 100 total beds in the entire United States for these victims. The majority of these victims are young girls that have fallen prey to the commercial sex industry at the hands of perpetrators known as pimps and johns.

Once the girls have been safely placed in the care of the Refuge. Their new lives begin.

We will work with each child to develop a plan based on their specific circumstances. Children may stay in the shelter up until age 18, with a goal of finding appropriate long-term placement after two years, if possible. We will assess long-term placement options for each individual, including possible return to the home, foster care, independent living, continued support through Refuge of Light, enrollment in college or other arrangements. After they leave the Refuge, we will continue to provide targeted aftercare and connection to the program to ensure long-term success.

Our goal is to provide a safe environment for these victimized minor girls to heal and transition into a new life equipped with the skills to allow them a successful future within society.
