How We Serve
Dear Monthly Chick Leader,
Thank you so much for leading The Center for Women and Children Chicks! We LOVE spending time with the women and children and truly appreciate you for making it possible. Without monthly leaders bringing their joy and passion to The Center for Women and Children, we truly believe this program would not be the wonderful blessing it is to so many!
Here are a few general guidelines for leading a Chicktime month at The Center for Women and Children.
Your Programs:
Each month there will be a different Chick Leader. The Chick Leader will plan and fund their month’s program. The programs need to be based on the passions and talents of the leader. It is recommended that you provide a food or snack station because everyone loves to eat.
Please note that as a Chick Leader you will need to prepare to have up to 50 women and 20 children. There may not always be this many women and children but we are ALWAYS prepared for the full amount.
Your Volunteers:
You are responsible to bring ALL volunteers needed to facilitate your programs.
Additional volunteers will join us on any given Saturday, but they will serve as mentors and enjoy time with the women and children. Bringing your own volunteers to run the programs also creates the opportunity for new volunteers to experience Chicktime!
Invitations:
Chicktime Indy will create an invitation for your event. It is important that you organize your programs as early as possible so that we get the invitation out to the general public. Ideally, we would like that information 2 months prior to your event. Patty will be in contact with you to get the specifics needed to create the invitation.
Chicktime Indy will send out the invitation for you using our database to our regular volunteers. You are encouraged to send the invitation out to your circle of friends and family as well as print them off and distribute to your community if you desire.
What to wear:
We typically wear jeans, capris/long shorts and Chicktime t-shirts. We will have shirts for sale prior to each Chicktime. T-shirts are available for a donation of $20 and help spread the word about Chicktime! 100% of the money goes back into Chicktime Indy! This is how we raise money for special projects for the women and children. Whether or not you wear a Chicktime shirt, casual clothes are highly recommended, please be aware of your surroundings and make sure you are appropriately dressed.
What NOT to wear:
Please, no tightly fit clothing. This includes snug or revealing shirts or pants, tank tops, short shorts, or open- toed shoes. Also, please be considerate and do not wear excessive jewelry or designer clothing, we do not want to make anyone feel “small.” If anyone is wearing inappropriate clothing, they will be asked to change into clothing set aside for such purposes.
Other Things to consider:
SIGN IN AND OUT: Enter the Center through the main doors (located on the east side of the building, under the green awning) and sign in and out at the front desk. Please let them know you are there to volunteer and that you are with Chicktime. They will direct you where to go from there!
PURSES AND OTHER VALUABLES: Please leave your purses and other valuables in your car.
PRIVACY: Please respect the privacy of the guests and residents. Do not ask them to share personal information. We are there to enjoy our time with the women and children and do not want to upset or make anyone uncomfortable.
GIVING MONEY: Please do not give money to guest or residents. Those staying at the Center for Women and Children are given items for their needs – i.e. showers, food, shelter, transportation or bus fare to appointments, etc. If someone asks you for money, please let a staff person know!
CHILDREN: Children are definitely welcome! We ask parents use discretion when children are younger than 8 years of age and that all minors (those younger than 18 years old) are always accompanied by a parent or another adult.
PHOTOGRAPHY: For privacy and protection of the guests and residents, photography and video is not permitted. However, you are more than welcome to take photos of the buildings and the Chicktime group.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Patty Homoky of Chicktime or Tammy Caldwell at Tammycaldwell@wheelermission.org of Wheeler Mission Ministries. We want this to be a great opportunity for not just the guests of the Center for Women and Children, but for the volunteers too!
