Why I Serve a Leadership Role at Chicktime:

There is freedom waiting for you On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask, “What if I fall?”
Oh, but my darling,
What if you fly?

~Erin Hanson

I am a 50-something empty nester, who left an abusive marriage several years ago.  When I was struggling to regain a sense of myself, a good friend told me “Things might seem stormy now, but there will be blue skies ahead, and I can’t wait to see when that happens for you.”  I realized I had a chance to create the type of life for myself that I had always wanted, and a big part of that was to serve others.  I found Chicktime through Volunteer Match, and it seemed like a wonderful opportunity to give encouragement to women and children who have also gone through difficult circumstances.  I quickly discovered that the more we pour into the lives of others, the more we all see our own blue skies.

My Passions and Gifts:I have taken the Spiritual Gifts test several times at church, and each time the result is the same – I am an encourager.   Perhaps it is because I have seen beauty created from ashes in my own life, that I have a passion for helping others to see themselves as the amazing person God created them to be, and to point out strengths and gifts that they might not have recognized in themselves.  I also have an insatiable curiosity and sense of adventure – I love to learn new skills, visit new places, try new activities, and meet new people.  Danny Kaye once said, “Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint you can at it.”

Hobbies and Interests: I most enjoy spending time with family and friends, especially my grown daughter and her family.  Just ask me about my new grandson!  Before covid, I was very active in my church, and I can’t wait to return to in-person worship.  I like reading, cooking, photography, watching movies, playing games, going out to eat, and expressing my artistic side through a variety of crafts.  I enjoy scouring thrift shops, flea markets, and garage sales to find a bit of junk that I can transform into treasure (ala Flea Market Flip).  And I spend as much time as possible outdoors, camping, hiking, kayaking, and traveling whenever I can.

Why I Serve a Leadership Role at Chicktime:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

~Margaret Mead

I am a wife and mother of toddler who makes me smile every single day. She motivates me and is my inspiration to be my best self every day.  I love the work of non-profit organizations and answering the call to serve. I found Chicktime through Volunteer Match and felt this was a match for me. Being there to uplift others is important to me and knowing that I can make a positive difference in the lives of children is the call I don’t want to miss.

My Passions and Gifts:

I love being around people and learning about them- what drives them, what motivates them, and what encourages them  I love to support people with their dreams and to help people experience joy! I love to have fun and share in fun activities with others. I still am a kid at heart and love to play every game and participate in any activity that will lead to laughs and smiles

Hobbies and Interests:

I enjoy spending time with my family. Spending a day with my mother, father, sister, and daughter is equivalent to a week of fun and laughter that will last always. I love visiting new places and traveling when I can. My daughter has awakened my desire to draw and work on arts and craft projects. Although I haven’t made a masterpiece, it is fun!
