December Update
If you would like to lead an activity in 2016 please contact me at chicktimehumble@yahoo.com 🙂
Words cannot even begin to express how grateful I am for all the love and generosity each and every one of our volunteers brought to our Chicktime Christmas party. I prayed that we would have enough donations to at least give a gift to each child but to be able to give multiple gifts to them and then have enough for the women was an even bigger blessing. Thank you to all who donated gifts, food, and your time to make this Christmas celebration the best one yet!
Unfortunately there was a double booking at the shelter for our November event so we will have to cancel the Nov. 14th event. But this actually worked in our favor as we can now have a Chicktime meeting that day to discuss plans for our December event. We have no activities planned so we really need to come together and make this a memorable event for everyone! Below is the information for our Chicktime Meeting:Join us for our annual Meeting & Leader Drive Saturday November 14th from 11 am – 1 pm at the Eagle Springs Sports Pavilion 17821 Eagle Springs Parkway Humble, TX 77346. We invite you to use this opportunity to learn more about Chicktime, to come together & share ideas for upcoming events (our December event), fundraiser ideas, and more importantly fill up our 2016 leader calendar. July Update
Our July volunteer event was definitely a FUN one for all. We created duct tape crafts with the women and children at Family Time Shelter. We created duct tape rose pens, neck ties, and bow rings. I love how excited everyone got when they realized how creative they actually are. I really enjoy bringing that out in them! 🙂 Thank you to all our volunteers for dedicating your time and volunteering for this event.

June Update
Our June event was spectacular- full of creativity and color! Our lovely Activity Leader Yashid put together a Tie Dye station for the children at Family Time Shelter. The children created unique designs on white t-shirts with colorful markers and used rubbing alcohol to spread the markers to give it the tie dye effect.
Thank you Yashid for all your hard work in putting this fun day together, you did a fantastic job. I would also like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who were able to make it to this event. Your help is always greatly appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering with Chicktime Humble visit the Events Calendar page and sort by TX-Humble and register for any upcoming monthly events. May Update
Our May “Mother’s Day Pampering” event was a great success thanks to Nidia Ramirez, our activity leader! Nidia put so much love and thought into the day and in return made some ladies very happy. The women at Family Time shelter received manicures from our lovely volunteers while the children played outside and worked on Mother’s Day crafts. It was a day full of love, laughter, and relaxation- Just what they needed on their special day! Thank you volunteers for all of your hard work and love you shared.
April Update
Our Chicktime Science Day event is always my favorite! As a Science lover myself, I really enjoy teaching children cool science experiments that they will always remember. The children at Family Time were thrilled to make slime, create their very own butter using just 2 ingredients (cream & salt) by shaking the two together in a jar, and then finish the day with homemade lava lamps. To make the lava lamps we poured vegetable oil and water in a water bottle with a few drops of food coloring and then dropped in alka seltzer tablets to make it bubble. I love watching their face light up when they realized they created something so awesome. I want to thank the volunteers for coming out and helping me with this event! I can never do it without you ladies!
If you would like to volunteer for our upcoming event in May go to the chicktime.com/calendar to register or email Sandra at Chicktimehumble@yahoo.com
Our March Chicktime event was so much fun and had everyone’s tummy growling as we watched Irene, our March Activity Leader, demonstrate how to make an Irish dish called Shepherd’s Pie! She also had the children create yummy marshmallow leprechauns using a variety of marshmallows and ice cream cones. The children really got creative with their creations. Once done we got to gobble down the delicious Shepherds pie and home made cupcakes provided by Irene. What a treat! Thank you so much to our Leader Irene for putting together an excellent day for these families.
I would also like to thank the volunteers for coming out and making it another successful event! I can never do it without you ladies!
If you would like to volunteer for our upcoming Fun Science event go to the chicktime.com/calendar to register or email Sandra at Chicktimehumble@yahoo.com
February Update!
Our February event was amazing thanks to all the hard work and love put into it by our lovely leader, Amber Harris. The women and children at Family Time received a lesson on Chinese/Japanese calligraphy while snacking on yummy Asian snacks. Once the lesson was over they had the chance to test out their chop stick skills while eating ramen soup. I saw lots of smiles and heard great conversations which means this event was a success! Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and joined Chicktime. Your smiling faces and positive energy is just what Chicktime needs!
UPDATE: our kickoff party will be held February 28th 12-3 pm (more information to come)
Join us February 14th for a day of Japanese and Chinese Calligraphy intro by our monthly leader Amber Harris! To volunteer please email Sandra at chicktimehumble@yahoo.com
January Update
Our January event was probably one of the most exciting events we have had thus far. The children and Family Time were thrilled to make and play with slime, create their very own ice cream using just 5 simple ingredients, and then create static electricity with balloons and hair! I had a few of the kids come to me at the end of the day to say it was “the best day ever!” Thats the kind of thing I like to hear at the end of a day of giving back.
Put on your lab coat and join us for a day of fun science experiments! We will teach the children & women at Family Time Shelter how to make your own ice cream, slim, and create static electricity!
If you would like to volunteer for this event please contact Sandra at chicktimehumble@yahoo.com
December Update
As I say goodbye to another year I like to reflect on what an amazing year it has been for so many reasons. Of course I had my own highs and lows but definitely a lot more highs thanks to this wonderful organization I’m a part of. I found Chicktime in January, at a time I wasn’t sure about where my life was going and what my purpose was on this earth. Now a year later things got a lot clearer, Chicktime is my purpose, my calling. I have met so many amazing people and learned so much through their own personal stories, teachings and talents. It’s a true blessing for so many that I hope to continue Chicktime for years and years to come.
Our last event for 2014 was another great success. We had lots of tiny little smiling faces who were very enthusiastic with our activities as you all saw! 🙂 We packed bags of cookies for the homeless, which I’ll get into a little bit later. We also created Christmas ornaments for the tree, decorated cookies, and then had a feast of even more sweets! The children had a blast decorating those cookies, it was hard to pry those sprinkles out of their hands so we can start the next project he he he..
Once we were done I headed home to pack the blankets and cookies into gift bags and with the help of my niece and nephew we handed the bags out to needy people around Humble and what I had left over I took to some homeless men, women, and a few children in Downtown. They were very appreciative as you can see in the photos. Thank you SO MUCH to all who participated in the cookie/blanket drive, you really made some needy people happy this holiday season. I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

As we are looking for 2015 monthly activity leaders I came across this wonderful reading from our church that I had to share because it has so much meaning. Enjoy 🙂
St. Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians in our second reading today, The parable of the talents has some lessons for us. The master gave talents to his servants and went away. When he returned, he asked the servants to give account of what they did with the talents he gave to them. A talent at the time of Christ was a form of currency with economic value. The man who was given five talents traded with it and gained more. The one who had two talents also traded with it and made more. When their end time came, they were rewarded for using their talents well. However, the man with one talent did not trade with it but rather buried it. He hid what the master gave him and looked for excuse not to use it. When the master returned and asked for his account, he could not produce anything and so was punished, what he had was taken away and given to another person.
While talent has economic value in biblical times, for us we interpret ‘talent’ to mean an aptitude or skill that someone has. A talent is a gift. One of the lessons of today’s gospel is that God gives different gifts to different people based on their abilities. It is not so much the gift but how we use the gift that matters. A gift that is not used will become meaningless and will be lost. We are all familiar with the axiom that practice makes perfect. If someone learns a language and fails to use it, after a while the person loses his/her fluency in the language.
Married couples know that the love they share is a gift which must be used constantly. Whenever that gift of love is taken for granted and not used or expressed in some form, the relationship begins to collapse. Some marriages break apart because the gifts of love given and/or received were never valued nor put to use. So also in the context of our faith, we must constantly practice our faith and not hide it. A faith that is not practiced will be lost.
Another lesson of the gospel is that human persons are not equal in gifts but they can be in efforts. For God, the effort with which we use the gifts given and do the tasks assigned to us is what ultimately counts. The man who refused to use his talents was probably afraid to take risk. Maybe he did not want to fail so he never tried. Have there been times in your life when you failed to do the right thing because you are afraid of making mistakes, or felt that you had too little to contribute? By not doing anything, you remain stagnant and there is no opportunity for growth. The Lord wants us to use whatever we have received from him. No matter how small we think it is, let us use it and we will be surprised at the increase and growth that comes with it. As we prepare to end the liturgical year, we think about the end times – our individual ends when we die, and the Second coming of Christ. What we are called to do is to take one day at a time, putting into work the gifts and talents that God gave to us. If we are not afraid to work with the gifts, we will not be shamed
when he calls us to give account of our stewardship, either when we die or at the end of time.
November Highlights
This Thanksgiving I have so much to be grateful for, one of them being Chicktime. During this year I have met so many amazing ladies, lifelong friends and learned many different skills. None of this would be possible without the loving volunteers who have given their time and talents back to our community though Chicktime. With that I would like to send a heartfelt Thank You to all the wonderful women who have given back throughout the year and helped make my Chicktime Chapter a great success. The compassion you all show to the families we serve is an inspiration for us all. I love to see my volunteers treat everyone with respect and kindness, no matter what the situation is. We all know how stressful it can be for the people who find themselves in need of the services we provide, and your words and actions go a long way toward helping them keep their dignity. I just want you all to know that your work hasn’t gone unnoticed. I love each and every one of you and I know with volunteers like you 2015 will be an even bigger success!
Our November event was another fun filled day. Although we didn’t have many house guests show it gave us volunteer’s time to bond one on one with the families and with each other. It was something really special to see. We spent the day painting center pieces, decorations and then had a Thanksgiving feast brought by our loving volunteers. Thank you to all the volunteers who donated a dish.
If you are interested in volunteering for our December event or would like to help lead an activity email Sandra at Chicktimehumble@yahoo.com
Wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!
Can you believe the holidays are almost here! Where did the time go?! While we are busy making plans and prepping for our big family gatherings we can’t forget those who are less fortunate and need our help to have a memorable Thanksgiving. I would love for our November event to be more than just a craft day, but instead a day of truly giving. Together lets provide a lovely Thanksgiving lunch for the ladies/children at Family Time. I know this would mean the world to these familes so if you would like to contribute to the Thanksgiving lunch please contact me by November 15th at chicktimehumble@yahoo.com.

August Highlights
WOW, words cannot express how grateful I am for all the ladies who came out this past Saturday to our Chicktime event. From start to finish you all were an incredible group of volunteers, and because of your hard work and love you poured out to these ladies this event was a huge success. Thank you so very much for your commitment of time and all the energy you put into that day.
I had a few conversations with some of the ladies from the shelter and they expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards all the wonderful things we did for them that day. I even had one young lady tell me that because she was being pampered in a way she had never been pampered before that it truly boosted her confidence and made her feel so special. Hearing that from her truly melted my heart and it was a little reminder that our words and actions go a long way towards helping them keep their dignity 🙂
I would also like to send another BIG thank you to Annette for putting together those adorable goodie bags for all the ladies. I know it wasn’t easy filling up each jar with face scrubs, body scrub, foot scrub and lip gloss! It was so sweet of you to do that for them just out of the goodness of your heart. THANK YOU!!
August 9th will be a day for all the ladies in the Family Time Shelter as they will all get a nice manicure done by our lovely volunteers. We will provide everything from an exfoliating scrub for them to use, nail polishes, and nail art stamps. Since we can’t just leave the boys out we will provide them with enough water balloons to keep them occupied 🙂
If you would like to volunteer at this event please register by going to chicktime.com/calendar or email the Chicktime Humble leader Sandra.
July Highlights
July’s volunteer event was an amazingly fun day. Our monthly leader Sylvia put together a fantastic vision screening setup for the families. What made me even more grateful for her was that she offered free comprehensive vision screenings at her office and free eye glasses to those women/children who failed the onsite vision screening.
We also had a volunteer bring us a box full of dental supplies for the families in the house which included tooth paste, tooth brushes and floss. They were extremely thankful since this is something the house is always in constant need of. Once we completed the vision screening portion of the day we headed outside for some water fun. We played games and then had a huge water balloon fight afterwards. WHAT A BLAST!!
Thank you volunteers for coming out and making it another successful event! I can never do it without you ladies!
If you would like to volunteer for our upcoming event in August go to the chicktime.com/calendar to register or email Sandra at Chicktimehumble@yahoo.com

Our May event was absolutely fantastic. It was a Mexican Fiesta/cooking demo hosted by our monthly leader Nidia Ramirez who I couldn’t be more proud of. She did a fantastic job showing everyone how to make authentic Mexican tacos that everyone raved about, and agua de sandia. We also played a few rounds of Mexican bingo which was a BIG hit with the kids and women in the house, mostly because of the awesome prizes they won 🙂 . Thank you to all the volunteers who joined in on the fun and really put your effort into making this day extra special. What a blessed day!

April Highlights
I’m always happy to report that we had another successful and fun field day at our last Chicktime Volunteer Event! The Eggstravaganza was certainly a great success thanks to all the volunteers. The highlight of the day was definitely the big Easter egg hunt and I think the women at the shelter had even more fun doing the egg hunt than the kids 🙂 Other than the egg hunt everyone got creative decorating and dying Easter eggs for the BIG egg hunt, created bunny masks, snacked on egg shaped Rice Krispy treats & sandwiches, and played with their new toys which they won from the egg hunt.
I want to thank all the volunteers who made the day extra special for these families by playing with them, helping the children find Easter eggs, and just simply laughing and talking to them. You truly make a difference! A special Thanks to Annette, Diane, Lisa & Kayla who got to the house early to decorate and setup the egg dying station! You ladies did a great job. We have some exciting activities planned for next month’s event so be keeping an eye out for the invitation!

March Highlights
Once again we had a very fun and successful Chicktime event this past Saturday at our March Volunteer event in the Family Time Shelter. Thank you so much to our March Activity leaders Chelsea & Hayleigh, you ladies did a FANTASTIC job! The woman absolutely loved personalizing their mugs and chatting with everyone. It’s something so healing for them when they have the opportunity to think about something other than their struggle. I loved seeing them so happy drawing, laughing and sharing stories about their life. Art always brings that out in a group setting like this. Chelsea you did a great job on those delicious, yet healthy cookies. YUM! Hayleigh thanks to you for putting together a wonderful station of science experiments for the children. Although there wasn’t a big turnout, the few children we did have seem to still have a blast making tie dye milk and see their vinegar foam up with the baking soda. You really made their day. Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who showed up and made the day extra special. You came in with a smiling face and joined in on the activities which inspired the house guests to join in as well. February Highlights
WOW what an amazing first Chicktime event Humble had! We walked into Family Time shelter and found the place completely decked out in beautiful valentines decorations thanks to a few Chicktime volunteers – Irene (my co-leader) and Annette with her daughter Kayla. The children were all smiles as we gathered around to work on adorable heart shaped hand print valentines. Soon after we started making duct tape rose pens with the moms and older kids who live in the house. Everyone ended up with beautiful roses and some even made tropical flowers. It was a day full of love, laughter, playing and eating some yummy treats. I think the children’s favorite part of the day was eating up all the homemade cupcakes that were brought 😛 There was a wonderful energy in that house, you could definitely feel Gods presence. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this a successful day! So many memories were made and will be cherished forever.
