Meet the Leaders

Julie Selzer
Chicktime Canyon Lake Managing Leader
juli.selzer@gmail.com

Why I server a leadership role with Chicktime:

I wish to help people understand that there is always a way to rise above the challenges life may thrust in our way.  I am a proud dyslexic who despite my learning disability has managed to raise three brilliant children and is considered a key asset at my workplace.  I firmly believe that my successes would not have been possible without the guidance and support from my parents.  Although they recognized my disability and sought resources to help, they simultaneously reminded me that it wasn’t an excuse to fail, just a hurdle to overcome.  I want to provide a similar support system to those who may not be as fortunate as myself.  I want to show the world how to work with the obstacles life may through.  Just because we can’t stop hurdles from coming into our lives, doesn’t mean they will stop us from living.  Chicktime has afforded me the opportunity to help others learn how to conquer their  challenges.

 My hobbies and interests:

I LOVE soccer! I played club soccer my entire life, and I was one of the first four-year letterman at my high school.  I was a volunteer soccer coach at the YMCA Mays for 8 years, I coached some the most adorable 5 year olds!  But, now my time is spent watching my kids indulge in their hobbies.  From attending my daughter’s art shows, to listening to my oldest son’s music, and to cheering on my youngest son’s basketball games; they have really broadened my interests into so many new and amazing areas.

My passions and gifts:

My passion is problem solving; I love to develop solutions towards all problems, whether at work, my personal life or for someone else.  I love the challenge of breaking down a situation, determining the root cause, devising a solution, and executing it. I’ve always been told I have a gift for assimilating into almost any environment. I love the wide assortment of friends the gift has given me and the array of knowledge I have been afforded wiht this ability to immerse myself into new words.

Why I serve a leadership role with Chicktime:
When Lori announced at the August 2013 event that she would like a 4th leader for our Canyon Lake chapter I thought about it for a week, then I volunteered.  I found Chicktime on the internet.  I was looking for volunteer work that my daughter, Katy and I could do together.  Since we found Chicktime, I have been consistently volunteering since February of 2013 and  I look forward to it every month.  I can’t wait to see the girls at New Life and I feel that they like to see us every month as well.  I believe it is important to be there every month because in my mind, it demonstrates consistency for the girls that live there and I think it could give them a sense of reassurance to see the same people come back month after month.  It is an indescribable feeling when one of the girls remembers me and gives me a hug.  I guess the reason I decided to serve a leadership role with Chicktime is selfish.  It makes me feel good!

My passions and gifts:
If you ask my friends at work or my daughter and her friends they would say my passion is Chicktime.  I talk about it whenever I get the chance.  I try to encourage others to join us and participate at New Life.   I have a knack for organizing things which helps when getting ready for my month to lead the station.   I also really enjoy helping people.

Hobbies and Interests:
My main interest is of course is my family.  I love to spend time with my husband and my daughter.  We enjoy shopping, cooking, and watching movies or TV together.  I also enjoy scrap booking and card making.  I am trying to get back into sewing, which is something I loved to do but finding the time lately is difficult.  I also enjoy participating in Toastmasters.  As a member of the North San Antonio club, I am learning a great deal about public speaking and leadership.  I also enjoy my job as a manager, which is very challenging and interesting.

Why I serve a leadership role with Chicktime:
I love helping others discover their passion and plug in to make a real differnce. It energizes me to see people move past their thoughts and take action to be who God made them to be and help others in the unique way they were created to do so. Chicktime is a great vehicle for this because lots of women are ready to make a difference and I can offer them tangible ways to do just that!

My passions and gifts:
My passion is seeing love in action. Anytime I get to witness someone functioning in their God given gifts I feel goosebumps, to me this is the sweetest form of love this side of heaven. My gifts may seem kind of boring to others but I just love processes and following through to create new and make the old better! I never met a drawer, room, or garden I wouldn’t love to organize or re-organize so it functions seamlessly and is beautiful to the eye. I feel the same way about everything I am interested in whether it is a community in need of love or a dying plant in need of rejuvenation!

Hobbies and Interests:
I love the natural world and how it calms my soul to be in it! It is a complete JOY to me to organize family fun and bring those I love together. Watching and experiencing loved ones enjoying simple things and life together are my favorites! And when I’m with family and outside enjoying the natural world together, my heart sings!

Why I serve a leadership role with Chicktime:
Inspired by my father’s heart for serving others as a missionary in Venezuela, I’ve discovered a passion in myself to want to serve others with the gifts that God has given me. Chicktime gives me the opportunity to encourage other women to recognize the beauty and gifts inside each of them. It also allows me to participate in the lives of both the women in my community and the girls at New Life, not just by sharing my time, my love, and my passions with them, but to give them the freedom to discover their own passions… the gifts that God himself placed inside each of us.

My passions and gifts:
My passion is art and graphic design…or anything that involves creating something of visual interest. I also enjoy watching others create. I believe art can be an open window to a person’s soul.  When I create something it comes from within me… not just from my mind but also from my heart. Art in any form is like a glimpse into the soul, a way to visually share our self with others when we can’t find the words.

Hobbies and Interests:
I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my niece and nephews and time to invest in others and causes that are dear to my heart. I enjoy creating art (all forms), making crafts, decorating, gardening, traveling, entertaining, and just being outdoors in nature.

Why I serve a leadership role with Chicktime:

Growing up in church, I was always passionate about serving in Children’s Ministry; Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and working in the nursery during service. When I met Liz for the first time and she told me about Chicktime, I just teared up and felt a tug on my heart strings. Building relationships with the girls at New Life and having them remember your name because you have made an impact in their lives is a completely unmatched feeling. Most of these girls are looking for love and if we can provide them with a little bit of that to help get them through whatever is happening in their life, we are making a difference. One of the things people remember the most is how someone made them feel – they may not remember the specific stations or games we played, but they will remember how we made them feel while spending time with them once a month.

My passions and gifts:

I’d consider myself an organized person who really enjoys simplifying and improving chaos. My job, which I’ve very passionate about, is centered around process improvement and people interaction. One of my gifts is being a positive person that likes to add humor into many situations (some would call me “goofy”). It takes a lot to embarrass me, so if someone needs to be in a costume or demonstrating the chicken dance, I will volunteer my services.

Hobbies and Interests:

I have varied hobbies that include volleyball, rowing, kickboxing, reading, crafting, designing floorplans and cooking. You can also find me walking around the ranch with (and snuggling) my 3 dogs. I am a foodie, so one of my favorite things is to explore new restaurants with my friends. I take my job as Aunt Rachel very seriously and try to spend as much time as I can with my niece and nephew. I’m very close to my family and enjoy the small-town life in the Texas Hill Country.

My friends and I always have the best time together. I actually took one of my friends to Disney World with me.  I also love coming to Chicktime. It gives me something to do instead of just sitting around doing nothing on Saturdays.  I’m incredibly lucky to be offered this opportunity to be a co-leader at Chicktime.
