Where We Serve
Chicktime Atlanta is proud to serve at the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home! he GBCH began in 1872 in a ten-room house on ten acres located 2½ miles from the center of Atlanta, with 32 children crowded in it….
It was four years before the first telephone was used and seven years before the first lightbulb was patented. It was a time of healing for our nation and the beginning of a ministry that would change the lives of thousands of children. From that one house and humble beginnings, Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries has grown to a statewide network of services that minister to children and families in need.
When the GBCH ministry started, Ulysses Grant was president and there were only 37 states in the U.S. It was a time of turmoil and change for our nation. Women at the Second Baptist Church of Atlanta recognized the need for a home for destitute and helpless children orphaned by the Civil War.
Their vision to help a handful of children all those years ago has turned into a ministry that spans the state from the North Georgia Mountains to the South Georgia state-line, with four campuses, three group homes, and their Camp Hawkins locations. Throughout their ministry, they’ve seen the world change and grow and have always adapted to the changing needs of the children in their care.
